I love how easy floating candles are to make, seriously if you have ever made a candle, you can make these. Even though they are super simple to make, they can easily be used to create an elegant display. Plus, making them at home, you can customize the color and fragrance of your choosing.

What makes a floating candle float?
The candle shape is what allows a candle to float. Floating candles are typically flat on the bottom. They are normally not very tall, because we don’t want them to get top heavy and tip over!
Remember, in order for it to float, the candle must displace more water by weight than it weighs.
Using your floating candle
Be sure to carefully place your candle into the water, as you do not want to wick to get wet. I like to lower the candles into the water by the wick to ensure it doesn’t get wet.
Making Floating Candles Instructions:
Equipment
- Scale
- Infrared thermometer
- Pouring pitcher or heat safe container
- Tart Mold
Ingredients
- Soy wax
- Wax color block
- Wick
- Fragrance oil
Making Floating Candles
Step 1: Weight out the wax and place it in your heat safe container or pouring pitcher. Add your color block shavings to it.
Step 2: Melt on a double boiler, be sure to stir while melting. Once melted, remove from heat.
Step 3: After removing from the heat, you need to continue to stir your wax until it drops to about 175° F. Then add fragrance oil and mix well.
Step 4: When the wax reaches between 120 -130 ° F temperature, pour it into your tart molds. You want to make sure that you don’t pour it too hot or it can cause additional shrinkage.
Step 5: Place the wick in the center of the tart mold. Be sure not to glue or use a sticker to adhere the wick, since we need to remove the candle from the tart mold.
Step 6: Allow the candle completely cool.
Step 7: Remove from your tart mold. To do this, you should be able to just pull slightly on the wick to easily remove. (If need be, place it in the freezer for a few minutes).
Step 8: Trim the wicks to 1/4 inch.
Enjoy your floating candles!
