French Green Clay Benefits:

What Skin types is a french green clay mask is good for?
- Oily skin
- Acne prone skin
- Normal or combination skin
- Mature skin
I would avoid using the french green clay on sensitive skin. For sensitive skin I would swap the french green clay out with a kaolin clay.
What are the benefits of a French Green Clay Mask?
Acne
Most of the time acne is caused from a blockage of your pores. They can get blocked by dirt, oil and dead skin cells. The blockage then turns into acne. The cool thing about a clay mask is that the mask is going to absorb some of those impurities from your pores.
Removing excess oil from your skin
All clay have some level of swelling capacity. It will swell when the liquid is added and shrinks when it is drying. Throughout the drying process it is going to absorb excess oil on your skin.
What can I add to a clay face mask?
There are so many different things that you can add to a clay mask to customize it to suit your needs. Below are a few of my favorite things to add.
Oil
You can add some oil to your mask to bring in some hydration. The key is to add it sparingly as adding too much oil can make the mask not want to stick to your face and to clump off when it is drying. Stick with noncomedogenic oils that will not clog your pores.
- Jojoba oil
- Avocado oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Argan oil
Liquids
For the basic recipe I am just using water as my liquid. However you can substitute the water with these liquids instead:
- Hydrosols
- Aloe
In this recipe I am going to add honey, honey is a anti-microbial and natural humectant. It helps to draw moisture to the skin and kill acne causing bacteria. Some other liquid ingredients that can be added in small amounts are:
- Raw honey
- Essential oils
Making French Green Clay Mask
Start out with a small amount of warm water in a small mixing bowl.
Add a small amount of honey and mix it in with the water.
Start adding the french green clay in a little at a time. I like to start with a teaspoon and add more until I get to a thick mask consistency.
Add a few drops of jojoba oil and mix well.
How to apply French Green Clay Mask
Cleanse your face and dry it before applying the mask.
Using a makeup brush (or your hands) apply the mask evenly to your face.
Allow the mask to start to dry on your face.
To remove the mask, soak a wash cloth in warm water and set it on your face to loosen it up.
Rinse the mask off completely with water.
Follow up with a moisturizer.
