With winter here, I need something more than lotion for my skin. It feels like no matter how much lotion I use, it’s just not enough to satisfy my skin. This is when I whip up a batch of this green tea body butter.

Seriously, body butter is way easier to make than lotion because you don’t have to worry about adding water and making emulsions. If you want to learn more about the difference between lotion and body butter, check out this POST.
Using Whipped Body Butter
The best time to use body butter is after getting out of the shower.
Our body butter is packed with skin loving butters and oils, but does not have any water in it. It is not a humectant, so it is unable to draw moisture from the air to our skin. After getting out of the shower and drying off, there is still some moisture on your skin. When you put the body butter on, it will hold the moisture in.
Also, this is a much deeper moisturizer than your typical lotion. It is comprised of thick skin loving butters that will sit on your skin for longer. So, be sure not to operate any heavy equipment after putting this on your hands!
Melting Oils
It is super important to use a double boiler method when melting your oils. You never want to melt them just in a pan. I use a small silicone mat to line a pan filled with water as my double boiler.
Ingredients
Mango Butter – Mango butter is non-comedogenic, meaning that it is not pore clogging. What I like about mango butter is that it is light and silky, but at the same time it is packed with skin loving nutrients. It is also a not too greasy butter, unlike coconut oil. Also, mango butter does not have much of a scent.
Olive Oil – My favorite carrier oil bar none! In order to get the nice whipped texture, you have to have a carrier oil added with your butter. I love all the benefits of olive oil ( protects against environmental damages, non-comedogenic and safe to use on delicate areas such as around your eyes).
Jojoba Oil – Now jojoba oil is a little pricey, but it is so worth it. It has healing properties that are great for eczema and dry skin, super moisturizing, antioxidant and helps control sebum (the oil that your skin produces naturally) production.
Oils Cool Down
Vitamin E Oil – We mostly use Vitamin E oil to help keep out butters and oils from going rancid. The goal is to maximize the amount of storage time you have with your butters. Some mistake this as a preservative. It’s actually slows the oxidation process which happens when butters are exposed to oxygen.
Green Tea Powder – This is also commonly called matcha. It has antioxidant properties.
Mint Fragrance Oil – The fragrance oil that I am using is called Mad About Mint. It is a combination of spearmint and peppermint.
Preservative Free
One thing that I love about this whipped body butter is that there is no need to add a preservative. Since the body butter does not contain any water and it is unlikely to get water into in (like if stored in the shower or dipping wet hands into the container), there is no need for a preservative.

- Electric Whisk
- Double boiler
- Container
Ingredients
- 3.98 ounce | 79.5% Mango Butter
- 0.46 ounce | 9.25% Olive Oil
- 0.46 ounce | 9.25% Jojoba Oil
- 0.03 ounce | 0.5% Vitamin E
- 0.03 ounce | 0.5% Green Tea Powder
- 0.05 ounce | 1% Fragrance Oil
Instructions
- Weigh all of your ingredients.
- Place the mango butter, olive oil and jojoba oil into a heat safe bowl.
- Melt on a double boiler.
- After melted, place into a plastic mixing container.
- Place in freezer for about 10-15 minutes.
- Whip the oils until they are light and fluffy with an electric whisk. If it is not whipping as desired, place back into freezer for 5 minutes and try again.
- Add cool down ingredients and whip again.
- Put into container and enjoy!
