Texture is key
The key to this lip scrub is finding the perfect whipped texture that is not to soft and not to hard, you really need a nice thick texture. You will notice that when I make the scrub, I will whip it at room temperature. I do this to ensure we are at the correct consistancy and to keep the scrub pliable after it is cooled.
It’s simillar to when you make whipped body butter. If you just let it cool it would be solid as a rock. But, give it a good whisking and bam its a thick fluffy butter.
Lip Scrub Ingredients
Coconut Oil
We use this because it is solid at room temperature. You really want to use an oil that is going to stay pretty solid at room temperature. Where I live it is even solid in the middle of summer, which is what makes it the perfect base for our scrub because you can use it year round.
Mango Butter
I mostly use this butter, because I love the way it feels. It is a more expensive butter, but we use it at such a small amount, I feel it is worth it. This butter melts at skin temperature, so when you start to exfoliate it will start melting, allowing for an even better exfoliation.
Granulated Sugar
Our exfoliator is nothing fancy, just sugar. Honestly, sugar really is the perfect exfoliator for our lips. It is a mild exfoliator and unlike salt, it will not burn if your lips are chapped. Plus, its edible, so if you accidentally get some in your mouth it’s fine.
