Instructions

Making Bath Bomb Cupcake

  • Weigh out all of your ingredients.
  • Put the dry ingredients (baking soda, citric acid, cream of tartar and epsom salt) into a mixing bowl.
  • Put your shea butter into a heat safe container and melt it on a double boiler. Once melted, pour the shea butter on top of the dry ingredients.
  • Add the rest of the liquid ingredients (polysorbate 80 and Monkey Farts fragrance oil) and mix well. I will normally start mixing with a spatula, but in the end you will have to mix this with your hands.
  • Add your mica powder and mix well. For these cupcakes, I used a Dark Purple.
  • Spray the witch hazel on the mixture. Only do 1-2 sprays at a time. (You want to be sure not to add too much or it can cause fizzing). Then mix very well. To test the consistency, you will want to grab a handful of the mixture and squeeze it in your hand into a ball. Then from about 5 inches above the bowl, drop it. If it stays in the ball and doesn't break apart, you are at the right consistency. If it breaks apart, just add another spray or two and test it again.
  • Grab a cupcake tin and place a silicone cupcake liner in it. Start to put the bath bomb mixture in, pressing down really hard. (You really need to pack it in the mold tight.
  • **Be sure to allow the bath bombs to dry for at least 24 hours before making the frosting.

Bubble Frosting

  • Weigh out all of your ingredients.
  • Place the dry ingredients (baking soda, SLSa and meringue powder) into a mixing bowl.
  • Add your wet ingredients (cocamidopropyl betaine and Monkey Farts fragrance oil) on top of the dry ingredients. Mix well with a spatula. You will notice that the longer you mix, the more pliable the bubble frosting will get. After a few minutes, it will be at a consistency that you can pipe.
  • Put the bubble frosting into a pipping bag. I find that it is easier to get it into the pipping bag if you put the piping bag into a travel coffee cup. Once it is all in the bag twist the end shut and squeeze out any excess air from the bag.
  • Remove your cupcake bath bombs that you made. You are going to want to rub off any excess powder that is on the top or the sides of the bath bomb. We need to do this to ensure that our bubble frosting sticks to it.
  • Start by pipping a large dollop of frosting in the center of the bath bomb cupcakes. Then pipe around the cupcake until it is how you like it.
  • Grab a little bit of the edible sparkles and sprinkle them on the top of your cupcake. You are going to have to allow this to dry for at least 24 hours for the bubble frosting to dry. As it is drying, you are going to loose a little bit of the height of the frosting, so pipe it a little bit higher than you normally would to accommodate.
