Learn how to make a Cuticle Cream in less than 5 minutes! Cuticle cream is used to assist in hydrating your nails and cuticles. It is important to keep your cuticles moisturized to prevent splitting and breaking. Protecting your cuticles is important as they serve as a barrier to protect our nail beds.
It is normal to have dried and cracked cuticles, especially in the winter. I also garden in the summer and tend to over wash my hands when I am blogging, so keeping my cuticles hydrated is a constant struggle for me.

Why do we have cuticles?
You never want to remove your cuticles, they are very important to protect your nail bed. Cuticles are small but they actually serve big purpose, they are needed to protect your nail bed from damage and infection.
How do I use cuticle cream?
Soak your nails in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Rinse them off and pat dry. Gently push your softened cuticles back with a cuticle stick. Apply your cuticle cream and massage it in to your cuticles and nail bed.
I am not perfect at doing this routine. I like to keep a small tin of cuticle cream on my nightstand and apply it before I go to bed. Even just doing this is going to make a world of difference for you cuticles.
Cuticle Cream vs Cuticle Oil
I also have homemade Cuticle Oil with Essential Oils and DIY Cuticle Oil Made With Jojoba Oil if you would like to check them out!
So which one is right for you?
If you are looking to quickly add a bit of hydration to your cuticles, a cuticle oil is an excellent option. If you are dealing with cracked and damaged cuticles that need a bit more love, I would use a cuticle cream. This is because the cuticle cream has occlusives that are going to create a barrier over the cuticle and protect your cuticle longer.
This cuticle cream does not have to be limited to your cuticles. If you want to use it on your elbows or feet where you need a little more attention, you definitely can.
What ingredients go into a Cuticle Cream?
This cuticle cream is packed with moisturizing butters and oils to soften and hydrate dry and cracked cuticles.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is such an amazing oil, it closely represents the sebum that our skin makes naturally. It is a waxy consistency that protects and hydrates your skin. Jojoba is a more expensive oil, but in a leave on recipe like this I feel that it is worth it.
Beeswax
Beeswax is an emollient that is going to help to seal in the moisture in the cuticle. The cool thing about beeswax is that it creates a barrier over your cuticle that is going to protect it from the elements.
Mango Butter
Mango butter is an effective moisturizer that helps to soften you cuticles. It is packed with Vitamin E and Vitamin C that help to protect from environmental stressors.
Ylang Essential Oil
Ylang Ylang essential oil contains linalool, which is said to have antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. I tend to use the cuticle cream at bed time and I find this aroma very relaxing. This can be easily swapped out for the essential oil of your choice.
How can I make cuticle cream at home?
Combine beeswax, mango butter and jojoba oil in a heat safe container. Place in a saucepan with a few inches of water on the bottom. I also place a silicone mat on the bottom of the pan to prevent my glass bowl from breaking. Heat on a slow to medium heat until it is fully melted.
Remove from the heat. Wipe the outside of your container off to remove the water on it.
Add Ylang Essential Oil and mix well.
Package and enjoy!
This will have a slightly liquid consistency, it won’t fall out of the container, but it will melt on your skin.
