This Monkey Farts hand wash is a simple one that does not require heat and you can whip it up in just a few minutes. I am in love with this fruity monkey farts fragrance, seriously I cannot get enough of it. The cool thing about this hand wash is that you can make it start to finish in less than 5 minutes.

In order for us to make a hand wash that is going to clean your hands (without making soap), it has to have a cleansing agent in it. It is normal to want to call this a ‘soap’ but it is not a true soap because this is made with surfactants and soaps are made with saponified oils.
The active surfactant matter for a hand wash is typically going to be 10%. My surfactant active matter was just below that.
I have chosen to use a blend of two mild nonionic surfactants. I am using Caprylyl Capryl Glucoside and Coco Glocoside. The coco glucoside has a high pH, which will require that we lower it just a bit in this formula. We want our pH level to be about 6, so we can easly adjust it down with a bit of Citric Acid.
Along with the surfactants, we are going to use a bit of Vegetable Glycerin. We use the vegetable glycerin to draw moisture to our hands and help with hydration.
To thicken this Monkey Farts hand wash up into a hand wash consistency, we will need to use just a touch of Xanthan Gum. Now the xanthan gum is not going to want to mix into the water, like at all. You know how when your making gravy and you go to add the flour and it creates little clumps? Basically that same thing happens here and the xanthan gum will clump up into ‘fish eggs’. To prevent this, we simply perhydrate it with the vegetable glycerin.
I am just in love with the Monkey Farts Fragrance Oil, so I went ahead and added a bit of that to this hand wash.
Since we are using water in this formula, we will need to add a preservative. I am using Germall Plus Preservative.
Making Monkey Farts Hand Wash
Blend the xanthan gum with the vegetable glycerin to create a slurry. You will want to make sure that this is mixed very well and that there are no clumps left.
Put your distilled water into a mixing container and add the xanthan gum slurry to it. Mix well.
Add both of your surfactants and mix well.
Add citric acid and mix well.
Add Monkey Farts fragrance oil and your preservative and mix.
Pour into your container. The mixture is thick, but not so thick that it is hard to pour into the bottle.
