Cherry Emulsified Lip Scrub

Cherry Emulsified Lip Scrub

I love how this cherry emulsified lip scrub rinses right off without leaving behind a greasy residue. This scrub is gentle enough to use on your lips but powerful enough to slough off the dead skin cells, leaving your lips soft as silk. With only 4 ingredients, you can whip this simple recipe up in just a few minutes.

For the carrier oil, I went with Grapeseed Oil, I love how lightweight it is and the way it leaves my lips feeling oh so soft. When you are choosing an oil, be sure to stay away from the more expensive ones as this is a rinse off product. Those fancy or more expensive oils are better suited for leave on products.

oil phase ingredients

In order to make this an emulsified lip scrub, we will need to add an emulsifier, I am using Stearic Acid. Basically, an emulsifier is going to bind with the oil when it gets wet and rinse it off.

Not only is this an emulsifier, but it adds a bit of body to the lip scrub (which I find a lot easier to use). When you are using only oil and sugar, it can be a bit difficult to use. When I use those kinds, I tend to really lean over the sink because it tends to fall off. Adding the stearic acid gives this lip scrub a thicker consistency that makes it easier to get a really good exfoliation.

Flavoring and Exfoliting

For the flavoring, I am using Cherry Flavoring Oil. It is kind of funny that it is called flavoring oil because the flavoring oil actually does not have a taste, just a scent.

For the exfoliator, I am going with Granulated Sugar. It is gentle enough for our lips and you probably already have some on hand. You can swap this out for brown sugar if you would like.

This lip scrub is an anhydrous formula, meaning that it does not contain any water. Since there is no water and I don’t store it where water can be introduced (like in the shower) and I won’t be dipping wet fingers into it, there is no need to add a preservative. Now, if you plan on dipping wet fingers into it, then you will wanna go ahead and add a preservative.

Making Emulsified Sugar Scrub

Oil Phase – Place your grape seed oil and stearic acid into a heat safe container. Then, place them on a double boiler until completely melted.

Cool Down – Remove the oil phase from heat and pop it into a ice bath to cool it down quicker. Stir while it is cooling. Once you get to a thick like pudding consistency, remove from the ice bath.

Flavor – Add the cherry flavoring oil and mix well.

Exfoliator – Add your sugar and mix. Scoop into your container and enjoy.
