What does a salt scrub do?

A salt scrub sloughs off dead skin cells. It is important to exfoliate because exfoliating your skin leads to softer, smoother and healthier skin. Also, the massaging / scrubbing on your skin is a great way to promote circulation.

Can you use a salt scrub on your face?

I would not recommend using this salt scrub on your face. It is gentle on your body, but it is too harsh for your face.

How to use a salt scrub?

I like to give the scrub a quick mix with a spoon, in case any of the oils settled at the top of the container.

Then apply a small amount of the salt scrub to wet skin and gently massage in a circular motion. (You never want to apply pressure, be gentle when you are exfoliating).

Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Then follow up with a good moisturizer.

Sea Salt Scrub Ingredients

Glycerin

Vegetable glycerin is a humectant, which means that it pulls moisture to your skin. I also use it in this salt scrub formula because I like the texture it has.

Apricot Kernel Oil

I used apricot kernel oil because that was an oil I had on hand, but feel free to use any carrier oil that you would like. Typically in rinse off formulas, I stay away from the more expensive oils, but you’re using such a small amount that if you wanted to use something more expensive like jojoba oil, it’s not going to break the bank.

Coconut Oil

I put coconut oil in this scrub to help with moisturizing and to thicken up the scrub just a bit. Coconut oil is really nourishing for our skin and it has a long shelf life.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is the exfoliant in this scrub. We want to use a fine grain sea salt, so we don’t damage our skin. I didn’t have any fine grain on hand, so i ground up the coarse sea salt with a mortal and pestle…. trust, you want to buy the fine grain. its way too much work to grind it up.

Polysorbate 20

Polysorbate 20 is used to help get the small amounts of oil that we use, to rinse off easily. It also prevents a slip hazard in the tub with the oils.

Fragrance Oil

Have I said before how much I love the Monkey Farts fragrance oil? It’s a fruity blend of awesomeness. Feel free to swap it for another fragrance of you would like, just adjust the amount you use to that fragrance’s manufactures recommendation.

Making Monkey Farts Sea Salt Scrub

1. Weigh out all of your ingredients.

2. Place your coconut oil in a heat safe container.

3. You can place the coconut oil in the microwave or on a double boiler until it is completely melted.

4. Place the melted coconut oil into a mixing bowl.

5. Add apricot kernel oil, glycerin, polysorbate 20 and Monkey Farts fragrance oil and mix well.

6. Add the sea salt and mix well.

7. It is important to note that I did not add a preservative, as there is no water in this formula. If you are going to store it somewhere that water could be introduced into the scrub, add a preservative.

8. Fill your container with the sea salt scrub and enjoy!
