This chocolate and toffee whipped candle really adds to my hot chocolate station. I love that it looks really complex but, it really isn’t all that hard to make. The whipped wax topping really takes this candle to the next level and there are so many ways you can customize it to suit your needs.

Candle Making Basics
If you are looking for more details on choosing your ingredients, scent throw, etc check out my How To Make Candles post as it goes a little more in depth.
Candle Ingredients
Soy wax
I went with soy wax in this candle, but you can certainly use any candle wax that you would like.
There are a few things that you will want to look into with your wax:
- What is the fragrance load of the wax? (This will be the maximum amount of fragrance oil you can use)
- What is the recommended pouring temperature? (You will pour at this temperature).
- Is it suitable for a container candle?
Fragrance Oil
I went with a Chocolate and Toffee fragrance oil that I already had. Feel free to use any one that you would like.
These are the things you’ll want to keep in mind when choosing your fragrance oil:
- Is it candle safe? You cannot use a fragrance that is not candle safe.
- What is the recommended use rate? (Please note, you will go by the wax use rate not fragrance use rate). It is just good to know that the use rate is at least as high as the fragrance load for your wax.
- What is the flash point? (You will not add the fragrance until your wax is below this temperature).
Candle Wick
When choosing your candle wick, you will want to ensure that you get one that is suitable for the container that you are using.
Whipped Wax Notes
When you are mixing your wax, you do not have to mix it constantly. I normally give the wax a good mix every minute or two. You will notice that it will start out like an apple sauce consistency. You will want to wait until the wax will hold a “peak”. (I go more in depth on this in the video)
Making Chocolate and Toffee Whipped Candle
I find that breaking the candle up into sections, makes it way easier to understand how to make it.
Candle Base
1. Weigh out the wax and fragrance oil for the candle base.
2. Put the soy wax into the pouring pot.
3. Add the color to the soy wax. (To darken the brown, add black candle dye).
4. Melt on a double boiler.
5. While the wax is melting, place a small amount of hot glue on your wick tab and place it in the center of the cup.
6. Once fully melted remove from heat.
7. Once the temperature of the wax is below the flash point of your fragrance oil, add your chocolate and toffee fragrance oil. (The flash point on mine was 190°F.)
8. Stir the wax and fragrance oil until the wax is in the desired pouring temperature range. (The wax I used had a suggested pouring temperature of 90° – 100° F.)
9. Pour the wax into your candle and use a marker to hold the wick in the center of the candle.
Whipped Wax Topping
1. Weigh out the wax and fragrance oil.
2. Put the wax in a poring pot and place it on a double boiler.
3. Once the wax is fully melted, remove from heat.
4. Pour into a container that will be easier to mix in.
5. When the temperature is below the flash point of your fragrance oil, add the fragrance oil.
6. Mix and mix! You are going to want to give the wax a good mix every minute or so until you get a consistency that will hold it shape.
7. Cut the corner off of a baggie and insert piping tip.
8. Fill the baggie with your whipped wax.
9. Pipe the whipped wax onto the top of the candle.
10. Lightly dust the top of the candle with cinnamon.
11. Place a cinnamon stick into the whipped wax, so it is still sticking out on one side.
Chocolate Drizzle
1 Put a small amount of wax and candle colorant in the melting pot.
2. Melt on a double boiler.
3. Once melted, use a small spoon to drizzle the wax chocolate drizzle on your candle.
