How to make 50% Citric Acid Solution

Citric Acid Solution

Today I am going to show you how to make a simple, yet very useful 50% citric acid solution. I find that it is a very handy solution to have on hand as we often have to lower the pH of our products that we make to ensure they are skin friendly.

When you are making your own skin care products, that last thing that you want to do is to create something that is going to damage your skin. To ensure that the pH level is balanced, we typically have to lower it. This can seem intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is actually pretty simple to do.

I strongly recommend getting a dropper container like I am using. You want to get one that is a dark glass or a colored PET plastic container.

Making 50% Citric Acid Solution

Weigh 10 grams of citric acid on your scale.

Weigh 10 grams of distilled water on your scale.

Slowly add the citric acid to the water and mix until the citric acid is completely dissolved. I like to mix this in a container with a pouring spout. If you do not have one, be sure to have a small funnel handy.

Transfer the mixture into your container.

Label and date.

The shelf life of the citric acid solution will be roughly one year, if stored out of direct sunlight and at room temperature.
