Chest Balm Ingredients
Coconut Oil
The coconut oil is used because it is solid at room temperature and it melts at right about skin temperature. Which means that the balm will be solid-ish, but once you put it on your chest it is easy to apply.
Beeswax
We use beeswax to thicken the balm up. You can either use white or yellow beeswax. If you want to thicken the balm up to be a bit harder (say in warmer areas) just increase the amount of beeswax that you use. And vise versa, to soften it more, decrease the amount of beeswax.
Apricot Kernel Oil
The apricot kernel oil is the carrier oil is a great moisturizer for our skin. This can be swapped out for any carrier oil that you would like to use.
Menthol Crystals
Menthol crystals are said to temporarily relieve congestion, sinus discomforts and support immunity. It is often used in aromatherapy. Since menthol crystals will not dissolve in oils, we have to dissolve them in our fragrance oil before adding to the oils.
Polysorbate 20
The polysorbate 20 is used to help fully mix the fragrance and menthol with our oils. It also improves the texture of the balm.
Fragrance Oil
I used Pink Grapefruit and Citrus fragrance oil for this chest balm. There is just something about the scent of menthol and grapefruit that I love. If you want to try something a little different, I also like the way menthol and eucalyptus smell together.
