This whipped body butter is a delicious treat for your skin. No water is added, thus no need to add a preservative. The butters are whipped to perfection making it thick and fluffy at the same time. The oils stay solid at room temperature and then melt instantly when applied to your skin. Just like butter on toast. It is best to use after a shower, as the rich oils help lock moisture in. Leaving your skin feeling soft, hydrated and refreshed.

Jump to RecipeIf left in the heat, it does melt
Do note, that if you leave the whipped body butter in the car on a hot summer day, it is going to melt. I learned that one the hard way on a hot summer day.The whipped body butter is still fine to use if it melts, it just takes away all of the whippedness. (Is this a word? If not, it really should be). You can always toss it in the freezer for a little bit and re-whip to save a melted batch.
Since this body butter does melt so easily and is sooooo moisturizing, it is something that I will normally only make in the fall and winter. I live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and we get some pretty rough winters that will really dry out your skin.
Also, as a precaution remember that this is not a hand lotion that you want to use before driving, your hands will slip right off the searing wheel. Rather, it is intended for use after a shower for the best results. You want to make sure the oils are able to soak into your skin. I also keep a bit on my night stand to use before bed.
Oh, and one of my favorite things about the whipped body butter is the feeling when you reach you hand in to get some. I don’t know why, but the crackily feeling is weirdly satisfying to me. Let me know if it is for you too or if I am just an odd duck!

Equipment
- Heat Safe Container
- Electric Whisk
- Scale
- Spatula
Ingredients
Hard Oil Phase
- 1.40 ounce | 35% Shea Butter
- 1.40 ounce | 35% Coconut Oil
Soft Oil Phase
- 1.12 ounce | 28% Olive Oil
- 0.02 ounce | .5% Tapioca Starch
Cool Down Phase
- 0.06 ounce | 1.5% Fragrance Oil
Instructions
- Melt the hard oil phase ingredients in a heat safe container.
- Mix the soft oil phase ingredients together in a bowl.
- When the hard oil phase is melted, add to soft oil phase and mix well.
- Place in freezer until the sides are solid and the middle is opaque. If you are not sure you can take it out and try to whip it. Just put it back in the freezer if it is not solidified enough.
- Whip it. Normally I start bu removing everything from the edges of the container. Then I whip it with an electric whisk.
- Add fragrance and color if desired. Then whip it more. This is how it should look when you are done whipping.
- Place in container and enjoy! Again, be sure not to leave it in the heat as it will melt.
