Learn how to make a DIY foot scrub, includes a recipe and video tutorial. This recipe is formulated to include ingredients you already have at home. You will notice that unlike some recipes that you find it does not include oils. I found that using oil makes your feet and the soaking basin a slippery mess.

I realized that I have a foot soak and a foot balm recipe posted, but how have I not posted a foot scrub before now? For this post, I want to use only ingredients that you probably have already in your house. I will also list out some substitutes that you can use.

How to use the scrub
When I use a foot scrub, I will soak my feet first for 10-15 minutes. This is going to help to soften the skin and it is super relaxing. You will take a small amount of the diy foot soak on your hands.
Pull one foot out of the soaking basin and you are going to use a circular motion while massaging the scrub all over your foot. I normally start with my toes and work my way to the heel. Remember to get the top of your foot too. After you are done scrubbing your foot, put it back in the foot soak.
Repeat with the next foot. Then you will dry your feet and apply a foot balm or lotion.
Exfoliation
It is super important to exfoliate your skin, especially as you get older. On average our skin makes a new later roughly every 2-4 weeks. As you get older, the rate at which the dead cells leave your skins surface declines. These dead skin cells make it look dull.
Not only does exfoliating remove the dead skin cells, it also helps to stimulate blood flow. And a major benifit for the feet, is that it is going to remove dirt. I swear, it does not matter how often I wash my feet, my heels look dirty.
I am guilty of walking around without shoes and socks as often as I can. Even outside! But still, I am not trying to have gross looking feet.
How often should I exfoliate?
There is no cut and dry answer to this. It really depends on your skin. I would only recommend one or two times per week. But seriously, does anyone find the time to soak and exfoliate their feet twice a week?
I personally try my best to do it once a week. And that seems to work well for me.
Foot Scrub Ingredients
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is an exfoliant that is going to dissolve while you are using it. I specifically chose epsom salt because it is said to help the body remove toxins and reduce swelling.
This is easily replaced with a variety of ingredients including:
- White Granular Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Dead Sea Salt
Dried Peppermint
Dried peppermint is good at helping to hydrate feet and is easily absorbed into the skin. Most botanicals will work as a substitute. You just want to be sure to avoid anything that is going to have a hard edge that can damage your skin. Such as nutshell or fruit pits.
Essential Oils
I used a blend with eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and lemon essential oils. You can use any ones that you prefer, but I enjoy the minty scent for my feet, there is just something so relaxing with it.
