With this DIY Reed Diffuser recipe, it is super easy to make your house smell amazing with your favorite fragrance oils or essential oils. Paying $20 to $30 for a diffuser base that I can easily make seems kind of silly to me. You can make Reed Diffusers with scents that you do not typically find in the stores.

I absolutely love candles, but its not something you can leave lit while not at home. The reed diffusers distribute the fragrance through your house by traveling up the wooden reed sticks. I also love that they go into cute jars and vases that double as décor.
What are the main ingredients in a reed diffuser?
You might be wondering what you need to make your own reed diffusers, and you need 4 ingredients.
Containers
I picked up some containers from a thrift store and they are perfect for this project. When choosing the type of jar for your reed diffuser oil, you want to get small short jars with a narrow opening at the top. You want a smaller opening to slow down the rate at which your essential oils evaporate.
Now if you want to diffuser to give off even more fragrance, go with a jar with a wider lid.
The Reeds (Sticks)
Wooden reed sticks are required for this diffuser. The reed sticks are more porous and are thick enough to hold the fragrance oils. The sticks have many small tubes through the sticks that allows the scent to go up them unhindered.
Ideally the reed sticks should be twice as tall as your jar is. This is to help to distribute the scent throughout your house.
These sticks can work for a long time (usually a couple of months) before getting clogged and having to be replaced.
Base
The main ingredient that you need to make the diffuser, is a base. The diffuser base has to be able to combine with your scent. It gets a little tricky because it has to be thin enough to travel up the sticks without clogging it.
Scent
The fragrance of your reed diffuser is really the fun part. You can use whatever fragrance oil you would like in the recipe. There are going to be some heavier fragrance oils that can clog your reed sticks. If you find that you have an issue, just increase the amount of the base that you use to thin it out a little. I used a Love Spell fragrance oil.
How to use your DIY Reed Diffuser
I like to turn the reeds upside down twice per week, to keep the fragrance filling the house. You can pop these diffusers all over the house. I like to keep one in my bedroom, bathroom and living room. There is just something so nice about having the house smell good when I get home.
I suggest that if you’re making more than one diffuser, try a different scent in each one. That way, each room has its own unique smell. If just makes it stand out more when you go into a different room. In my bedroom, I like to use a Lavender scent because it is a relaxing scent and Love Spell in the living room.
