While cleaning my house the other day I realized I was out of room spray. Ugh, it is always when you are right in the middle of cleaning too. Anyways, a goal of mine is to make all of the household items that I can myself sooooo… challenge accepted! Plus, there is nothing more relaxing then a house that smells good.
Let’s take a look at our ingredients:
This is a hydrophilic, non-ionic surfactant, But, not the same type of surfactant that you would use in a syndet bar. This type of surfactant is used to help the fragrance oil or essential oil dissolve into your water because oil and water do not mix. Without this ingredient you would have a layer of oil on the top or the room spray.
You will definitely need a preservative for this room spray. The last thing that you want to do is to leave it out, grow some bacteria and then spray it around your house. Be sure to use a broad spectrum preservative the is water soluble and that is safe for 100% water recipes.
Fragrance or Essential Oil
This is completely up to you to decide which fragrance you are going to make. Are you looking to create a relaxing environment, try a cucumber and spearmint or a floral fragrance.
Distilled water
Yes, it needs to be distilled. The reason why it is important to use distilled water is it is a pure water without bacteria and minerals. Tap water can be significantly different and can affect you finished product.
