What Is Whipped Body Butter?
Whipped body butter is an oil-based moisturizer made by melting butters and waxes, then whipping them into a light, airy texture.
Because it doesn’t contain water, it:
- Feels richer than lotion
- Lasts longer on the skin
- Doesn’t require a preservative

Why Each Ingredient Is Used (and What You Can Swap)
Cranberry Butter
Adds a smooth, lightweight conditioning feel.
When I made this, I noticed the natural red specks showing through the whipped butter, which gave it a really pretty finished look.
Swap with: shea butter, cocoa butter, or kokum butter depending on how firm or rich you want it.
Mango Butter
Adds structure without making the butter feel heavy.
Swap with: shea butter for a softer feel or cocoa butter for more firmness.
Beeswax
Adds stability and helps the body butter hold its shape.
Swap with: candelilla wax (vegan option) or carnauba wax (use less).

Fractionated Coconut Oil
Keeps the body butter lightweight and fast absorbing.
Swap with: sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or sunflower oil.

Arrowroot Powder
Reduces greasiness and gives a soft, smooth finish.
Swap with: tapioca starch or cornstarch.
Fragrance Oil
Adds scent to the final product.
I used a sugared peony fragrance oil, which paired really well with the light, fruity feel of the cranberry butter.

Vitamin E
Helps slow oxidation and slightly extends shelf life.
How to Make Whipped Body Butter
This method is slightly different, but it creates a smoother and more stable whipped texture.
1. Melt the Butters and Beeswax
Add cranberry butter, mango butter, and beeswax to a heat-safe container.
Melt using a double boiler until everything is fully liquid. Make sure the beeswax is completely melted.

2. Add the Liquid Oil and Cool Down Ingredients
Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
Add:
- Fractionated coconut oil
- Arrowroot powder
- Fragrance oil
- Vitamin E
Stir everything together by hand until fully combined.
3. Let It Cool Completely
Allow the mixture to cool until thick and opaque.
You can place it in the fridge, but I let mine sit overnight, which worked really well and gave the perfect texture for whipping the next day.
4. Whip Until Light and Fluffy
Using a hand mixer, whip until the texture becomes light, airy, and smooth.

5. Optional Color
For a more finished look, you can add a small amount of light pink mica before whipping.
This gives the body butter a soft blush color that looks especially nice with the natural cranberry specks.

6. Transfer to Jars
Spoon into clean containers and allow it to fully set.
The final texture should be fluffy, lightweight, and easy to spread.
Troubleshooting
Too soft: increase beeswax to 6%
Too firm: reduce beeswax to 3–4%
Too greasy: increase arrowroot to 3%
Won’t whip: mixture is too warm, let it cool longer

How to Customize This Recipe
Once you understand the ingredients, you can easily adjust:
- Butter types for firmness
- Oils for skin feel
- Wax for structure
