Lavender Bath Bombs

lavender Bath Bombs

Making Lavender Bath Bombs is really simple. They require a few basic ingredients – baking soda, citric acid and witch hazel. I colored some of the sea salt with a shimmery purple mica powder, which gives them a lovely pop of color and the sea salt makes your bath just a bit more relaxing. Then we add in some sweet almond oil to help moisturize and an emulsifier to get our oils and water to combine together. And top them off with a bit of the lavender buds to add to the aesthetic.

Baking Soda & Citric Acid

These are the two most important ingredients in a bath bomb recipe. When the baking soda and citric acid get wet, they cause a chemical reaction, which is what makes bath bombs fizz.

Think of when you would make a volcano in grade school with baking soda and vinegar. This is the same idea, just with dry ingredients.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is said to be good for boosting circulation and detoxifying our skin. If you don’t have sea salt, this can be swapped for epsom salt.

Sweet Almond Oil

We add a bit of sweet almond oil to the lavender bath bombs to add some moisture. A relaxing bath is so nice in the winter, but they can be drying for our skin, so we add a bit of oil to minimize the drying effect.

Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier. It is used so that the sweet almond oil you added can mix into the water instead of just weirdly sitting on top of the bath water. It also prevents the oil from sitting on the bottom of the tub when you drain it.

Lavender Buds and Lavender Fragrance

I love the look of the lavender buds in the bath bomb and also in the tub. They are just so relaxing. I scented this bath bomb with a Lavender and Sage fragrance oil.

Coloring The Sea Salt

1. Take a little bit of course sea salt and place it into a bowl.

2. Put purple mica powder in the bowl with the sea salt and mix it up a little bit.

3. Add 1-2 sprays of witch hazel and mix well.

4. Place the colored sea salt on parchment paper to dry.

Making Lavender Bath Bombs

1. Start by weighing out all of your ingredients.

2. Add the baking soda, citric acid and uncolored sea salt into a mixing bowl.

3. In the same mixing bowl, add sweet almond oil, polysorbate 80 and fragrance oil.

4. Mix well, I find that it is easier to mix it all up with my hands.

5. Add a bit of colored sea salt and lavender buds to the bath bomb mixture. I did not measure, I just added until I liked the look of it.

6. Spray the mixture with rubbing alcohol. Be careful and only do 1-2 sprays at a time.

7. You are going for a consistency of wet sand. You should be able to squeeze a bit of the mixture into a ball and drop it a few inches above the bowl, and the mixture should hold its form. (I found that you need to squeeze harder than normal because of the extra sea salt and lavender buds).

8. Put the mixture into a cupcake pan.

9. Press it firmly into the pan.

10. Pop it out on parchment paper and allow it to dry. I like to leave it for a full 24 hours.

11. Enjoy
