Detox Soap: About Our Clays

Clay is used all the time in beauty products, from face masks and soaps, to bath bombs and scrubs. The reason why we use it so much, is that it can add so many different benefits. So, let’s look at the benefits we are getting from the French Green Clay and the Activated Charcoal.

French Green Clay: I chose this clay, because it’s known for its abilities to attract and absorb dirt and impurities from our skin.

Activated Charcoal: It is the way the charcoal is manufactured that makes this ingredient so powerful. It is heated at really high temperatures with low oxygen. This makes the molecules porous and able to absorb toxins so well. It is known for its ability to unclog pores, remove impurities and toxins from our skin.

Getting the clays to mix

I find that it can be sort of difficult to get the clay to mix with the melt and pour soap base. Rather than easily mixing, it tends to want to clump up. It reminds me of how mica powder clumps together. I find that the easiest way to get the clay to mix into the soap it to premix the clay with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Just be careful not to use too much rubbing alcohol. Remember, you can always add more to the clays as needed.
