How to Package Shower Steamers

How to Package Shower Steamers (DIY Packaging Ideas)

Making homemade shower steamers is fun, but figuring out how to package them can be just as enjoyable! Whether you’re making them as gifts, putting together sample sets, or simply looking for a nicer way to store them, the right packaging can make a big difference.

For this project, I used clear wax melt clamshell containers with six individual cavities. I love how these turned out! The clear containers show off the shower steamers, and I added a little silver biodegradable glitter to give them some extra sparkle.

These smaller containers are especially nice for sample sizes, gift sets, and even Christmas stocking stuffers.

I also created a customizable shower steamer label that you can download and edit for your own projects. You can use my design, change it to match your fragrance, or create your own label in Canva.

You don’t need expensive printing equipment either. I used a basic black-and-white thermal printer for mine. It’s not the fanciest setup, but it worked just fine!

Let’s walk through how I packaged these homemade shower steamers.

Supplies You’ll Need

You don’t need a lot of supplies to package your shower steamers. Here’s what I used:

Why I Used Wax Melt Clamshell Containers

When looking for packaging, I wanted something simple that would show off the finished shower steamers without requiring individual wrapping.

These clear wax melt clamshell containers worked really well for this project.

Here are a few reasons I like them:

  • Individual compartments: Each shower steamer has its own space, helping keep them separated.
  • Clear packaging: You can see the shower steamers without opening the container.
  • Great for gifting: They make a small batch look neat and finished.
  • Perfect for samples: They’re a nice option if you want to share different fragrances with friends or family.
  • Stocking stuffers: A packaged set of shower steamers makes a fun little Christmas gift.

How to Package Shower Steamers

Step 1: Add a Little Biodegradable Glitter

This is such a simple detail, but I think it makes the finished packaging look extra cute!

Before adding the shower steamers, I sprinkled a little silver biodegradable glitter into each cavity of the clear clamshell container.

The silver looks really pretty against the clear plastic and gives the packaging a little sparkle without needing additional decorations.

You don’t need much. A light sprinkle is plenty.

Step 2: Pack the Shower Steamers Into the Containers

Once you’ve added your glitter, it’s time to fill the clamshell.

Place the shower steamer mix into the clamshells. The containers I used have six compartments, which worked nicely for my smaller shower steamers.

Press them into the cavities using your thumbs. These need to be really packed into the molds.

As you press the shower steamers into the cavities, you might notice some excess mixture around the edges or along the sides of the container.

I used a silicone spatula to scrape away any extra material and clean up the edges.

This little step makes a difference! It gives the finished package a much neater appearance and keeps loose mixture from making the container look messy.

Step 3: Allow the Shower Steamers to Dry Before Closing

Once everything is in place, don’t rush to close the containers.

I recommend letting the shower steamers sit for a few more days before closing the clamshells. This gives them additional time to dry thoroughly.

Moisture trapped inside packaging can cause shower steamers to activate prematurely, so this is an important step.

Keep the containers in a cool, dry location away from humidity and water while they finish drying.

Step 4: Design Your Labels to Fit Your Containers

Before printing your labels, you’ll want to make sure they’re the right size for your packaging.

I originally had labels that measured 4 x 3 inches, but they were too large for the smaller clamshell containers I was using. So, I adjusted the design to fit the containers better.

I ended up making two labels per sheet, with each label measuring 2 x 3 inches. This worked much better and gave me a nice fit on the front of the clamshell.

The important thing is to measure your container first so your label fits nicely without covering too much of the product.

Once your design is ready, you’re all set to print and cut your labels!

Step 5: Clean the Outside of the Containers

After everything had dried, I gave the outside of the containers a light spray with rubbing alcohol. Then wipe down with paper towel.

This helped remove any dust or shower steamer residue before applying the labels.

A clean surface is important because you want your stickers to adhere properly.

Allow the rubbing alcohol to evaporate completely before applying your labels. I only used it on the exterior surfaces, keeping it away from the shower steamers.

Step 6: Print and Cut Your Shower Steamer Labels

Now for the labels!

I originally had labels that measured 4 x 3 inches, but they were simply too large for these smaller clamshell containers.

Instead, I adjusted the design so that I could fit two labels on one sheet, with each label measuring 2 inches by 3 inches.

This size worked much better for the packaging.

printer printing labels for shower steamer

I printed mine using a thermal black-and-white printer. It’s not the best printer for creating colorful product labels, but it’s what I have available right now, and it worked!

To get a nice, clean, straight edge, I used a paper cutter rather than scissors. This made trimming the labels much easier and gave them a more finished look.

If you have a color printer, you could certainly add some color to your labels to coordinate with your shower steamer fragrances.

Step 7: Apply the Labels

Once the containers were clean and completely dry, I applied the labels to finish everything off.

Make sure the surface is dry before attaching your stickers. Press the labels down firmly so they adhere evenly.

And that’s it! You now have a nicely packaged set of homemade shower steamers.

What Widget Looks Like for Shower Steamers

You can use the design as it is or make changes to suit your project.

For example, you could:

  • Change the fragrance name.
  • Add your own business or website name.
  • Adjust the colors to match your packaging.
  • Change the wording to suit a different shower steamer recipe.

If you’d rather start from scratch, Canva is another great option for creating your own labels.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy label designs. A simple label can make homemade products look much more polished.

Other Shower Steamer Recipes to Try

Once you have your packaging ready, why not make a few different shower steamer varieties?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use wax melt clamshells for shower steamers?

Wax melt clamshells can be a convenient packaging option for smaller shower steamers, provided the container material is suitable for your intended use. Check the manufacturer’s specifications before using them, particularly if you’re making products to sell.

How many shower steamers fit in a six-cavity container?

The containers I used have six individual cavities. I placed one smaller shower steamer in each cavity. The exact fit will depend on the size and shape of your finished shower steamers.

Do shower steamers need to dry before packaging?

Yes! Shower steamers should be completely dry before packaging. Moisture can activate the baking soda and citric acid, causing them to fizz prematurely.

I also recommend allowing additional drying time after placing them in the containers before closing the lids.

Can I use regular glitter for shower steamers?

I used silver biodegradable glitter as a decorative touch in the packaging. Make sure any glitter you choose is appropriate for your intended use. I kept mine in the packaging rather than incorporating it into the shower steamer formula.

Can I make my own shower steamer labels?

Absolutely! You can download my customizable label above or create your own in Canva. I made mine 2 x 3 inches so that two labels would fit on one sheet and work with the smaller clamshell containers.

What is the best way to store packaged shower steamers?

Keep packaged shower steamers in a cool, dry location away from humidity, water, and direct sunlight. Use packaging that provides appropriate moisture protection, and check that your containers close securely.

Final Thoughts

I really like how these shower steamers turned out in the clear wax melt clamshell containers.

The little bit of silver biodegradable glitter makes them look extra special, and the individual compartments are perfect for smaller shower steamers.

I think these would make adorable Christmas stocking stuffers, little gifts for friends, or sample packs if you’re making several different fragrances.

The best part is that you don’t need a lot of expensive supplies to package them nicely. A simple container, a little glitter, and a customized label are all it takes to give your homemade shower steamers a finished look.

Happy making!
