Olive Oil

Olive oil

One of the great things about olive oil is that it does not leave your skin feeling super greasy. It’s the perfect oil for moisturizing, massages and cleansing. It is an oil that typically does not clog pores and has antibacterial properties that help to protect our skin. I love that this oil is easy to get and it is inexpensive.

Different Types / Grades:

  • Extra Virgin
    • The least processed and the most natural form of olive oil.
    • Typically, it is cold processed, meaning that no heat is used. Also, no chemicals are put into it.
    • Normally, this is the oil that would be used in skin care products.
  • Olive Oil Pomace
    • The left over skin, pulp and seeds are used to make the pomace. And they are mashed to salvage any remaining oil. Heat and chemical extraction methods are used to get the oil, as there is not much oil left.
    • Normally this oil is used in soaps. In fact, there are soaps that are made with 100% olive oil.

Oleic Acid

It is full of oleic acid. The reason why this is important to know when making cosmetics is, because oleic acid has anti inflammatory properties and is hydrating for our skin.

Non Pore Clogging

Everyone’s skin is different. However, oils that are high in oleic acid are most suitable for dry skin. The best option, it to see what oils do and do not work for your skin type. Personally, I find that it does not clog my pores. However, test it for yourself.
