DIY Chocolate Peppermint Vegan Lip Balm

Vegan Chocolate Peppermint lip balm

Ready to learn how to make a vegan lip balm? Don’t worry, it’s super easy to make. I love the glossiness the candelilla wax gives the balm. It glides on easily and leaves behind skin protecting oils.

The cool thing about making lip balms at home is you can make small changes to customize the balm to be how you want it. You get to choose the flavor, color and texture of the finished product.

DIY Vegan Lip Balm Ingredients

Candelilla Wax

100% plant based wax. This wax is super hard at room temperature, even harder than beeswax. This is used to keep our balm in stick form and to prevent it from melting too easily. A cool bonus with this wax is that it has a very glossy finish.

Cocoa Butter

Great moisturizer! This butter is very brittle but melts right at skin temperature. So it is used to thicken the lip balm and ensure it melts on contact with our lips. Also, I used a non-refined cocoa butter, meaning that it has a very strong chocolate scent.

Shea Butter

Known for its moisturizing, soothing and softening abilities. This is easily absorbed in and won’t leave your lips too greasy.

Jojoba Oil

Love everything about jojoba oil. It closely resembles the sebum that our skin produces and it is quickly absorbed into our skin.

Flavoring

Peppermint flavoring

I love the peppermint and chocolate combination for this lip balm. Seriously, it smells good enough to eat. (Don’t, but it smells sooooo good!). Feel free to swap out for your favorite flavoring!

Adding some color

Feel free to leave this uncolored if that’s how you prefer it. I like to add any extras that I can, so I added in a nice chocolate brown color. It’s not a lip stain, the coloring does not show up on your lips at all. If anything, you just get a little bit of the shimmer that is in the mica.
